Nancy Mitchell, Fred Mitchell and Marty Buckner operate Clarkland Farm, an expanse of more than 400 acres in Fayette County. They are major consignors at the Central Kentucky sales and over the years they have bred, raised and/or sold many top-class runners, including two time champion sprinter Housebuster, champion older mare North Sider, and English champion two year old Wind and Wuthering. The Mitchells and Buckner, who count the Klein family of Louisville among their major clients, have also bred, raised or sold Grade I and Grade II stakes winners Beholder, Mendelssohn, Farma Way, Arson Squad, Allamerican Bertie, Dixie Dot Com, and R Lady Joy. In addition to their success as breeders and sales consignors, they are also good stewards of the land, with Clarkland being among the Central Kentucky Thoroughbred farms that have joined in the purchase of Development Rights Program that preserves Bluegrass Farmland. They have a more vested interest than most in securing the future of their farm since the land has been in Nancy Mitchell's family since they were granted in under a land grant in the 1700's.
