Clarkland Farm is a family run broodmare operation located in the heart of the Bluegrass. Clarkland is run by Nancy and Fred Mitchell, as well as Nancy's daughter, Marty Buckner. The farm has been in the family since the 1700's. It is not a big operation but one dedicated to getting the best out of each and every horse under their care.
"As a result, the Mitchells and Buckner know every quirk of each velvet-nosed foal, yearling and mare in their care." Alicia Wincze Lexington Herald-Leader.

Homerun Berti, a stakes winner at Sunland Park, showed eagerness early and assumed immediate command then widened the margin through the turn and was ridden out in the final furlong for a gate to wire victory.
Next Right Thing, a winner at Churchill Downs, vied for the lead three wide, within striking distance off the inside, took over on the turn and drew off under a mild hand ride.
Ms. Rhetta, an allowance winner at Mountaineer Park, was taken in hand at the start, set down at the quarter pole, quickly gained entering the stretch, drove clear in midstretch and widened easily being ridden out as much the best.
Be Well broke her Maiden at Churchill Downs today. She settled between horses, steadied near the seven sixteenth, angled in and moved up through the turn, tipped out entering the stretch, engulfed the leader nearing the furlong marker and drew clear.
We have added some great mares to the farm over the last week. Please welcome Celtic Chant, Fiscal Policy, Miss Holiday Inn, and Zip Cash Back. Also, the Kleins have added Beijoca.
SHE DID IT!! Beholder ran an unbelievable race against very respectable competition. There have been several articles written about the race:

Beholder Trumps Delta and Princess in Distaff
We are so proud of this filly. Happy Birthday Fred!
We were contacted by Mary Cage this week. She was interested in writing an article about the farm and the very special Beholder. She spoke with Fred and wrote one of the nicest articles about Clarkland that has ever been written. Here is a link to the ARTICLE. If you have a chance to take a look at her blog, Past the Grandstand, she has a lot to say. Thank you Mary for taking the time to write about Clarkland and Beholder.
Greek Life, an allowance winner at Indiana Downs, was well placed while four wide, was steadied on the backstretch when foe drifted out, rallied into the stretch and drew clear, was all out at last late.
Beholder wins the Zenyatta Stakes at Santa Anita Park. She sped to the early lead and set the pace on the inside. She responded when challenged on the second turn, inched away again leaving that turn, kicked clear and held on gamely under a moderate hand ride.
Sheila Tequila, an allowance winner at Remington Park, dueled from the inside early, remained engaged through the turn, battled through the drive and proved best.
Tater Taunter, a winner at Moutaineer, stalked the pace edging closer on the backside, wrestled a clear lead drawing off to a commanding margin in the upper stretch.
Ocean Bertie, an allowance winner at Churchill Downs, vied for the lead on the inside, took over before the half, set the pace inside, drifted out near the sixteenth marker then lasted late.
She's Back!!! Beholder takes the Torrey Pines Stakes with ease. She sped between horses to the early lead, angled in and set the pace along the inside under a rating hold, inched away again on the second turn and proved clearly best without encouragement. ARTICLE
Housebuster was inducted into the Hall of Fame today. Please read the ARTICLE to learn more about his legacy. Fred and Nancy Mitchell say her was the smartest colt born on the farm. Nancy was called a week after he left the farm to be broken. He knew exactly what to do without being taught. The trainers were wondering if he had already been broken. Congratulations to all of his connections!
